The Shelby Cobra GT500 is the most powerful Mustang that Ford have ever
built. Ford Mustang is one of the most respected car in the U.S. and with
combined expertise of the legendary car designer Carroll Shelby, the Mustang
became the greatest American car. The GT500 has an output of 450
horsepower and more than 450 lb-ft of torque, it has a V-8 engine made of cast
iron and a 5.4 liter Double Overhead Cams with 4 valves per cylinder. What's
amazing in its powerplant is the screw-type supercharger with an air-to-water
intercooler that generates 8.5 pounds of boost that forces air into the cylinders.
The Ford GT has been a remarkable experience for Ford engineers that many of
the GT500's engine components like the aluminum heads and bearings came
from its development. The GT500's powertrain is the T56 6-speed manual
transmission that was race proven to handle the V-8's horsepower. It is evenly
spaced to allow the engine to use all of its torque to power the rear wheels.
Most American Race drivers know
that American muscle cars are known for straight-line speeds but
what changed all that was the development of Shelby Mustangs. It
was very nimble on twisting tracks and on the technically
challenging road courses in the U.S. and Europe, and the modern
GT500 is no different. With an independent MacPherson strut
suspension with reverse L-lower control arms on the front end
while a three-link solid axle on the rear, with a track bar to
prevent lateral motion. It has a front and rear stabilizer bars
that keeps body roll minimized.
Although the GT500 is very fast its
stopping power is aided with 14-inch, four-piston discs in front
and 13-inch, twin-piston discs in the rear Brembo brakes with
ABS system. What keeps it on the road is the 19-inch wheels that
holds P255/45R19 high-performance tires, and its handling
performance has a rack-and-pinion steering system.
With the GT500's dimension starts with its wheelbase which is
107.1 inches, length is 188.0 inches, width is 73.9 inches, and
its height is 55.7 inches. The GT500 can still be recognized as
a Mustang because the design was originally tested on the
Mustang GT coupe and Ford designers made some refinements on the
Mustang GT-R and now it has been improved to reached the GT500.
It also features a silver Cobra badges instead of the standard
Mustang horse logo. Since the GT500 is the most powerful Mustang
that the Ford factory have ever made its price is around $40,000
which is much more expensive than the current-model mustangs.
