Spied testing in Germany, Superleggera is fitted with lightweight carbon fibre body panels for ultimate performance. This is Lamborghini's Murciélago Superleggera - the supercar which follows in the wheeltracks of its special-edition Gallardo brother by shedding weight in the pursuit of even greater performance.

Spied undergoing final high-speed testing this week at Germany's Nürburgring, the newcomer will debut officially at September's Frankfurt Motor Show. It's aimed at those who want the ultimate Murciélago which is equally at home on road and track.

These images show the car has carbon fibre doors. The engine cover, back diffuser, side vents and rear wing also use the material, leaving the roof as the sole steel panel.

Further weight-saving measures include the use of polycarbonate side and rear windows, plus carbon fibre sports seats in the stripped-out cabin. The changes should see the Superleggera weigh in at least 100kg less than the standard machine. In addition, the mighty 6.5-litre V12's engine management system is tweaked to boost power by 10bhp, taking it to an epic 650bhp. That should mean 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and a 220mph top speed. To keep all the performance in check, the suspension has been stiffened and lowered, while ceramic brakes provide incredible stopping power. As for transmissions, both manual and paddleshift E-gear system six-speeders will be available. With a limited run of 300 cars, the Superleggera will command in excess of £200,000.
